Brand Design

Código.IA is a course and a television programme at the Universidad de la República in Montevideo, where communication students research how artificial intelligence is reshaping society and turn it into journalism for TV Ciudad. I designed its identity as my final degree project — a flexible visual system, written as a manual the teaching staff and the students could run on their own. It did not stay in the thesis: it went on air.

The system

A flexible system is only worth building if the people who need it can run it without me.

The identity is not a fixed logo but a set of parts that recombine — rules rather than finished results. I worked from Martín Lorenz's writing on flexible visual systems, where an identity is a set of relations that keeps producing new pieces while staying recognisable. Written that way, it lets people who are not designers make their own material without the brand coming apart, which is where the value sits for an academic space: visual communication usually falls to whoever has time that week.
